Subject:
Instances of Esyline being installed without an expansion tank on water systems.
- Issues:
- Lack of an expansion tank can lead to over-pressurization due to thermal expansion from the water heater.
- Presence of a check valve in both Esybox and Esybox Mini 3 prevents expanded water from being relieved to the city or well system.
- Effect:
- High pressurization can cause leaks in equipment attached to the system, including the pump.
- Over-starting and stopping of the pump can cause wear on internal components
- Recommended Fixes:
- Inspect the system when installing these pumps.
- Install an expansion tank if one is not present or if the existing tank is waterlogged.
- Esybox Mini 3 with a normal peak flow of 10 GPM would need a 2 gallon pressure tank
- Esybox & Esybox Diver with a normal peak flow of 20 GPM would need a 4 gallon pressure tank
- Esybox Max with a peak usage of 50 GPM would need a 10 gallon pressure tank
- Installation location: between the discharge of the pump and the water heater, or on the cold incoming line of the water heater.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, which require an expansion tank whenever there is a check valve in the incoming line to the water heater.
- Result:
- Reduction of water hammer risk
- Reduction of start/stop instances
